QUEENSLAND FISHIN
It really was about time we caught a fish - not only were we getting bored of mince but we hadnt caught anything for agesssss. We put the line out on this sunny North Queensland day.
We didn't really start catching fish until we met Jan and Bram in Panama, two Belgian fishing Gurus, who gave us loads of tips.... and we are so grateful!
Who would have thought a simple Marigold (washing up glove) would change our fishing future!
So - buy a marigold glove, cut a finger off and cut vertical lines up the finger so the plastic wobbles about.
Attach it to your lure, trail the line out of the back of the boat - And Bingo – youre away!
We caught so many fish in Mexico and Costa Rica with this method!
When we caught our first fish, as it was flapping away at the back of the boat, we just looked at each other blankly.
Luckily, we had Starlink by then, and I went online and Googled - "what to do after you have caught a fish"
From "how to fish" its been quite a big learning curve - how to kill a fish, how to gut a fish, how to fillet a fish, how to cook a fish?
We love fishing now, although still not very fond of killing them!
Nowadays, we use neat alcohol (we bought a job lot in the Pharmacy in Mexico) and pour it in their gills - this was a tip by Colin from The Recipe, back in 2020 (Thankyou Colin!).
I'm not sure the alcohol has time to kill the fish before it suffocates, but either way, they seem to die with a smile on their face, it works quickly and it feels much less violent.
