For some reason this year (and anyone who knows me will know this was a bit weird) I could not really be bothered to even think about my birthday
60! FFS - that is really quite old!

It really was a complete coincidence that this happened but imagine the thrill of spending my birthday like this: Waking up at 1:30 in the middle of the night, convincing my groggy husband to take me in the tender to a nearly abandoned dock.
Climbing over an old barge while dockworkers hurled coconuts from a cargo ship nearby. From there, hopping into a taxi and setting off on a two-hour drive to a port where I was about to meet complete strangers in a strange town, in a strange country on my own.....
Stepping out of the taxi, I boarded a rickety wooden boat that seemed barely seaworthy. We motored for another two hours, and when I woke up, we were right next to these awesome, big bad boys
I realised it had all been worth it....
Then this happened....
Let's be honest, nothing could really top that, so when the whaleshark swim was over and I was safely back on board, we lifted the anchor, hauled up the sails, and left for the next destination - another day another venue - the Sail to Indonesia rally is relentless
Just as we were starting to think about heading to an island for somewhere to anchor overnight, we started to get messages from our friends who had discovered this amazing little island, which, we realised, was just within our sights...
Arriving at dusk (never a good plan on a sailing boat because you can't see the rocky bottom) and tendering over, in the dark, to an even smaller island, we found these party animals, who had been in the pool with a bottle of Bintang in their hands all day...
It was, however, still my birthday, so we made a plan to celebrate the next day, which was Sunday....
This was so much fun and very unexpected - I got presents, a cake and even everyone sang happy birthday! What a lovely surprise
